Affiliate marketing is not something you are going to learn over night, nor is it something that you can learn all there is to know from a single article. Like anything else, affiliate marketing takes time to learn. That’s why the failure rate in affiliate marketing is an astounding 90%! Of the remaining 10%, 95% will be mediocre, or perform moderately well, while the remaining 5% of those will be what is known as “super-affiliates”.
How Can That Be
The answer to “how can that be?” is simple. That 5% really digs their heels in. For lack of a better term, they are information “hogs”. They just can’t seem to get enough information. As they gather this information, they are actually learning how to manage affiliate marketing properly.
Don’t Put the Cart before the Horse
Most people come online, build a website and then sit back and wait. What are they waiting for? The money of course, except it isn’t going to come. They’ve started their project – The website is up, so they started their affiliate marketing venture properly. Now they’ve jumped all the way to the end, and they’re waiting on the money to start rolling in, but there’s a problem. THEY FORGOT EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN that needs to be done!
Content Building
You have to have related, quality content on the site for the visitors when they get there. Not just your information pages about your products and services. You need quality, well written content that is about your products or services, and is interesting enough for them to stick around and read it. This has to be added on a regular basis.
Link Building
You have to build site PR by gaining quality links to you site. Quality links are defined as those that have content that are somehow related to the content in your site. By related, it means that if you have a mortgage site, then other financial related websites are quality links, as well as anything real estate related. These sites are all complimentary to one another.
Advertising
Even with all that, you’re still not going to get traffic overnight. You’re website is a constant work in progress. New content has to be added regularly so that the search engines will see that you update your information on a regular basis, the more the better.
While we are waiting on that gain in site popularity which can take months, or even years if you choose a highly competitive keyword set. That leaves you with having to advertise your site.
Stay away from those PTC’s. Their traffic is cheap for a reason. The traffic that comes from them is garbage, unless of course you have another PTC. You are far better off to use services like Google Adwords, or Yahoo Search Marketing to do your advertising. You’ll see much better results!
