Affiliate programs are fortunately enough all on the level for the most part. Still, there are some unscrupulous operators out there that will drop off the face of the earth and leave you unpaid for your referrals.

There is no real clear cut way to separate the good affiliate programs from the bad. There are several sites that have so-called black lists, but these lists usually do not appear until after the fact and the program operators are long gone. Your best bet then is to look at the affiliate programs that have been around for a while. Chances are they are your best bet, and if you anything on the program that is adverse, you can use that information to make your decision. I will have to say however that if you find only one or two complaints, then chances are these are isolated cases that are originated by disgruntled ex-affiliates.
